     Scientific Name: Erysimum capitatum
   Common name: Sierra Wallflower
   Family: Mustard
   Color: Yellow, sometimes Orange.

Description: A rounded umbel of yellow, four-petaled flowers sits atop an erect stem. As the petals drop off, the seed pods grow long and upward.

Habitat: Dry slopes and flats at a variety of elevations.

Edibility: The seeds of all mustards can be dried and used as seasoning, but large doses can irritate the stomach lining.

Medicinal uses: Mustards are diuretics and have also been used in the treatment of bronchitis.

Comments: Of all the mustards, this one has the largest, showiest flowers. The genus name, "Erysimum" is derived from the Greek word for "help" or "save," a reference to its historical medicinal uses.
