     Scientific Name: Epilobium Obcordatum
   Common Name: Rock Fringe
   Family: Evening Primrose
   Color: Rose-purple

Description: These striking one-inch flowers consist of four heart-shaped petals, several stamens with white anthers, and a protruding stigma with a four-lobed tip. The leaves form a dense, protective mat.

Habitat: Cracks and crevices of upper-elevation rocky ledges and stream banks.

Comments: The long stout roots of this plant can penetrate tight rock crevices and reach deep into gravelly soils, thus enabling it to survive in harsh, upper-elevation conditions.
