   Common Name: Alpine HGeather or White Mountain Heather

Description: The rounded, bell-shaped flowers with petals slightly reflexed at the tips have red sepals, and nod from red pedicels extending from stems scaled with overlapping, needle-like leaves.

Habitat: Like red mountain heather, it is found near mid to upper elevation lake edges and stream banks.

Comments: This hardy but delicate-looking flower was an alpine favorite of John Muir.
